Hello there! I'm Hari, a business student in grade 11 (I agree that I am running out of creative introductions... help!) If you have followed the blog till this post, you are ready to officially open your business. Yay! Confetti! If you haven't, begin here.
But - there's always the big 'but' - here are some things you need to remember before and when you are opening your business. This short post will discuss the same with you.
Plan for the Big Day
As you might have noticed, the entire process of starting a business relies on rigorous planning. So, needless to say, you need a plan for the opening day of your business too. Now, unlike conventional planning, this one requires a different approach, a different focus. Your primary aim is to maximise initial sales by attracting a large number of people. Now, there isn't a "most effective way" to do this, but I will surely list out the different approaches you can take.
Build Hype
What are your first thoughts? Doesn't it catch your attention at first glance?
As you can see, the flyer can convey so much information at one look. The bold title makes it very clear that the fact that your business is opening officially. The subtitle catches the attention of the readers because it speaks about a discount.
Advertise, don't Spam
There is a clear line of difference between advertising and spamming a person. Excessive advertising can put off the customers, and too little advertising can cause a lack of awareness. Therefore, you must identify the goldilocks zone between these two extremes.
I sent out a new flyer every two days, and no two flyers were the same. This is something you must also try to do because the same flyer being sent over and over again would be treated as spam. Think from the perspective of the customer. Would you like to keep getting the same advertisement every day? The obvious answer is NO!
Offer an Introductory Discount
Like I said in this post, discounts tend to attract a great number of people to your business. So, a good - say 20% discount - will attract a large crowd to buy your product, thus increasing your introductory sales. However, as I keep repeating, log all this into your balance sheet. You wouldn't want to go under loss just because you wanted to up your sales.
Keep yourself afloat!
Until this post, I have given you a lot of knowledge and personal opinions regarding the best way to start and run your business. However, since what I say is either too generalised or is relevant to a specific sector of business, it is up to you to apply the knowledge shared here in a relevant manner. You wouldn't want to use ideologies meant for an ice cream business in a tech business. The results would be disastrous, trust me!
So, with that, we come to the end of another post! In the next post, we will discuss how you can continue keeping your business afloat. See you there!
